Ok, it is September 1st and I am finally updating this blog. I've been busy.
I returned to Texas from Pennsylvania with my mom on the 12th of August. Wonderful ride, we never got lost, no gas over 3.99 a gallon. So far so good. Then we arrived home...
The A/C was on, thank you Cara!
But the following things did NOT work: the telephone, the computer. Cell phones have poor reception here on the outer edges of the black hole of cell phone reception. Which means communication with the outside world was rare.
Work began- 8 days of in service. No problem.
Mom returned to PA via Killeen/Fort Hood airport. No problem.
I tried to fix something on my work computer... Big problem. It is now stuck in 'safe mode.' It is 'safe' from ANYONE trying to do ANYTHING to it. My bad.
Internet at my house- not working. Computer is DEAD. No life at all. Internet does not work with the laptop either.
Oh, yes- a power line was hanging in a tree and laying across a roof. But I had power.
Entergy fixed the powerline. Embarq fixed the telephone (their wiring is as old as I am, so this was NOT my fault.) Embarq also sent me a new modem. And I got a router. Desktop computer is kaput. Maybe my house got hit by lightning just hours before I returned home. That's my guess.
School started on the 25th of August. I like my schedule at the moment. Once someone ends up in ISS or AEP, not so much. (I'll be in those rooms one period a day.)
But, despite all the problems, I have to say life isn't too bad.
Then Friday happened.
The first home football game. Our opposition was a nearby town. And I swear EVERYONE in both towns came to the concession stand for food! It is 90 degrees outside, and about the same inside where 4 people were working- including ME!
Didn't I spend 6 and 1/2 years in college, earing two degrees, so I wouldn't have to work in food service???
The sophomores are still raising money for prom so we had to work. Thank God one parent took pity on us and sent her son in to help! Several other students eventually helped including a freshman who was the only kid who spent the whole night in there!
I got there at 6pm and left at 11:20pm.
Ain't life grand!
Oh yes, one other thing; the last Friday before school started we had lunch at school provided by one of the teachers and her husband. Typical barbecue fare: sausage, beef, potato salad, ranch beans, tea and dessert. This was the BEST beef barbecue I have ever eaten!
